How to Protect
Your Energy
Someone calls, you talk for twenty minutes, and afterwards you feel like you've run a marathon. A colleague walks in and the whole room gets heavier. You know that feeling. So how do you protect your energy from people like that? Not with a crystal in your pocket. Let me explain.
Yes, other people's energy can stick
I won't pretend it doesn't happen. Working with people for years as a psychic and healer, I see it all the time: someone else's anger, sadness or constant complaining sitting on a person like a wet coat. We call those people "toxic" or "energy vampires".
But here's the part we don't like to hear. Energy needs something to hold on to. A burr only sticks to loose wool. Somewhere inside us, there's an invitation.
What it clings to
Usually it's something very human. Guilt. The need to be liked. The old habit of saving everyone. The fear that if you say no, you'll end up alone.
Many of us were a little under-loved as kids. So we learned to earn love – by being useful, by being nice, by never being "too much". A person who drains you often lands exactly on that spot. Your mother's sigh, your boss's cold silence, your friend's endless drama. Different people, the same old wound.
A burr only sticks to loose wool.
Ask what you get out of it
This is a hard question, so be gentle with yourself. Why do you keep picking up the phone? Maybe it gives you the feeling of being needed. Maybe being the strong one is easier than admitting you're tired.
Helping always has a motive. That's not bad. It's just worth knowing. Once you see what you get, you can decide if it's worth the price.
Boundaries aren't walls
A boundary isn't a punishment, and it isn't a fortress. It's simply knowing where you end and someone else begins.
You don't need a long speech. "I can't talk right now." "No, I won't lend you money again." "I'm not discussing this." Full stop. The long explanation is usually guilt talking. And notice this: the people who complain loudest about your boundaries are often the ones who benefited most when you had none.
One more thing. If someone hurts you, threatens you or controls you, that's not an energy problem. That's a situation for real help – a therapist, people you trust, and the police if you're in danger. No ritual replaces that.
You're not powerless
Here's the good news. You can't change other people. But you can heal the place their energy hooks onto. And when there's nothing left to hold, it simply slides off.
No armor needed. Just you, a little more at home in yourself.
